- Enroll & support socio-economically vulnerable children to higher education / vocational streams of their choice, so they can subsequently pursue livelihood opportunities of their interest.
- Over 25% of students in India drop out of school at the higher primary level
- Only 44% of students in 8th standard can perform basic arithmetic
- Only 52% students continue their education after their Grade 10.
- 31% of our youth (15-29 years) are not in education, employment or training.
- Merely 53% of youth completing graduation are employable.
There has been reasonable focus on education by the government over the last decade, through various initiatives and allocation of funds, to ensure children have access to education. With the implementation of the RTE Act, there was an upsurge in school enrolments. However, students still grapple with low-quality education, leading to low learning levels and self-esteem which neither prepares them for a vocation nor for college education.
PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
Our Transformational Youth Development Engagement (TYDE) Programme focuses on the issue of marginalised children dropping out at the high school stage and poor learning outcome in the public schooling system, and facilitates continuance till they attain meaningful livelihood. The programme, assists, mentors and monitors children who are susceptible to dropping out of school at the Higher Primary stage and ensures they complete their school education and further pursue their university studies or vocational education.
Apart from the financial assistance, our programme provides high-quality academic coaching at our centres, career counselling, ongoing individual and group mentoring, youth leadership development opportunities and finishing school enrolment, helping them prepare for their future careers.
DSF partners with corporate employee volunteers and DSF alumni, to provide one-on-one mentoring and advice to the students.
We place a special emphasis on girls by providing a supportive and enriching atmosphere that includes cultural, recreational, social, educational, and professional opportunities, as well as mentoring, leadership training, and decision-making skills.
