Message from Management
Welcome to our first Quarterly Newsletter of 2022-23! Here we capture glimpses of our key activities and give a vivid picture of how we engage and enrol our students creating a new future for them. The purpose of the newsletter is not only to share information but also to build a community of stakeholders who can partner with us and further support our activities.
This quarter started with hope as the pandemic was subdued and life started getting back to normal. The schools reopened, and we could venture into our regular activities. We launched our new centre in Yeshwantpur with great excitement as our centres had been closed for the last two years. This state-of-the-art Transformation Youth Development Engagement (TYDE) Centre aims to cater to hundreds of children in the community giving them a novel learning experience. Another major highlight was the new admissions to our programme. We now have 1400 students under our intensive support and looking forward to enrolling another 300 by August 2022.
Warm Wishes,
Maitreyee Kumar, Executive Director
Impact
In Focus
The Bharat EdTech Initiative (BEI) at schools is in the completion phase. We have enrolled and supported over 2000 students in this initiative that is focused on an evidence-driven and outcome-focused approach to improving learning outcomes for students. The students are provided with EdTech solutions that enable learning anytime and anywhere.
We had focus meetings with the primary influencers of the students – the parents and teachers – to drive engagement on the learning platforms. We are currently finalising the assessment results and the information on the performance will be available by July 31st.
Restarting the programme after 2 years, the Summer Camp – 2022 elicited participation from over 200 children. With all Covid protocols in place, the Summer Camp offered a range of experiential Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and confidence-building activities such as presentation skills, dramatics, yoga and personality development. The children participated in these activities with much fun and enthusiasm and DSF enrolled 75% of the children in our Head Start programme that aims to facilitate the continuance of Education of socio-economically deserved children.
We forayed into the Emotional well-being aspect of the students in schools and community settings. We believe that mental health encompasses more than just the absence of mental illness. Our Emotional Wellbeing Programme aims to increase the student’s opportunities and choices in life, promoting mental health and well-being as a core role in education that benefits students in prospering in their educational endeavours and developing resistance to adversity. Such an initiative has assumed an enhanced
importance in the post-covid era. In this regard, DSF launched the EmotWelt programme for our students at our centres.
DSF is poised to enhance its reach to support more underserved children. This year we will cater to 1800 students out of which 60% will be girls from vulnerable socio-economic conditions. The selection process for the new admissions is underway. The process involves:
- Application Screening
- Socio-economic vulnerability validation through house visits
- Academic & Interest profiling
- Interview with students & parents
- Enrolment in the DSF programme
